The first Global Legal Skills Conference was held at The John Marshall Law School in Chicago. It was an intimate conference connecting legal writing and ESL professionals who had an interest in teaching law students, lawyers, and other legal professionals from around the world. GLS has since grown to include not only legal writing faculty, but also international and comparative law professors, clinical faculty, linguists, librarians, judges, attorneys, court translators, law students, and scholars interested in global legal skills education. Now in its 13th iteration, the conference draws hundreds of professionals from around the world.

The conference has been held four times in Chicago, three times in Mexico, twice in Costa Rica, twice in Italy and once in Washington D.C. In December 2018, the conference travels to Melbourne, Australia. In December 2019 we will meet in Arizona.

In holding the GLS-13 Conference at Melbourne Law School, we acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land where the law school is located: the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation. We pay our respects to their Elders past, present, and emerging.
